It is a wild shrub of the Peru. Gets to grow up to 2 meters in height.
It grows in the high jungle, along the Marañon River and in the areas high Andean.
The parts used are the stems, leaves and flowers.  These three elements provide energy, revitalizing properties traditionally used by people with problems of sexual dysfunction.

(Smallanthus sonchifolius)

Yacon is a tuber grown in warm and temperate areas of the Peru. Its texture is crunchy and sweet flavor.
It has Prebiotics and is believed has a favourable effect on the intestinal flora. Its root has vitamins B1, B and C and is composed mostly of water and oligofructans.
The roots of yacón contain quantities of Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), a type of sugar not metabolized by the body and that stabilizes blood glucose.
